Senior Defender Lindsey Nowland was a key member of the women’s soccer team that recorded eight shutouts and brought home an SSC Championship last year. The Cape Coral native describes the conference championship as one of her greatest experiences at NSU.
“Winning our conference championship last year, that was a big one. I would say that’s the biggest accomplishment,” said Nowland.
However, a few months after experiencing such a great moment, Nowland was faced with adversity. Last spring, she suffered a devastating setback when she tore her ACL.
“It was pretty tough. I tore it right during midterm week, so it was pretty crazy trying to get the MRI and study,” said Nowland.
She said the road to recovery has been a difficult process, but she could not have done it without the help of the NSU Sports Medicine members.
“The whole sports medicine staff here was really good to me; they’ve helped me a lot with rehab. It’s been a journey, still recovering,” said Nowland.
Despite going through the challenge, Nowland said she used it as a learning experience.
“It was weird to be in a position that you’ve heard a lot of people talk about, but [then you] actually experience it. I got to see what it felt like to be in the shoes of a lot of other female athletes at our school that have gone through the same surgery and how tough it actually is,” she said.
When she’s not busy playing soccer, Nowland enjoys spending time at the beach and reading. She is a biology major and is currently applying to dental school.
