On Nov. 12, four alumni student athletes will be we inducted into the 2013 NSU Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony and banquet in the Arena at the Don Taft University Center.
The NSU Athletic Hall of Fame was created in 2007 to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of athletic alumni, former coaches and other people involved with the Athletics Department.
This year’s inductees are soccer player Juan Ramos, softball player Katie Veltri, baseball player Bryan Cook and rower Nicole Felluca.
Juan Romas was a defensive soccer star at NSU from 1992 to 1995. After graduating with a bachelor’s in psychology, he played professionally for 10 years in Europe and the U.S. and later found success as a coach. He is currently the head soccer coach at Cypress Bay High School and the director of coaching and player development at Plantation Football Club. He is also a scout for the U.S. Soccer Federation and is on the Olympic Development staff.
Katie Veltri was one the most successful softball players in NSU history. From 2004 to 2007, she piled up statistics that put her at the top or near top in every major offensive category. She was the first softball player at NSU to be named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and was a NCAA All-American during her 2006 to 2007 seasons. Velri graduated with a bachelor’s in sports and recreation management and is now a title processor at Universal Land Title in West Palm Beach.
Bryan Cook will be honored as a great offensive threat during his baseball career, having played for the Sharks from 2006 to 2008. Cook still holds NSU’s single season record for home runs with 17 during his 2008 season. He graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration and later earned a master’s in science, biomedical informatics healthcare, information technology in 2010. He is an Integration Architect at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Mo.
Last, but not least, is Nicole Felluca, who, from 2004 to 2007, was one of NSU’s most accomplished rowers in school year. In her senior season, she was named the SSC Rower of the Year and was named to the All-SSC First Team and the CRCA First Team All-American. Felluca won the SSC V8 Champion 2007, was a part of the SSC Boat of the Year and was named the team MVP. The year ended with Felluca being named NSU Female Athlete of the Year and she graduated with a bachelor’s in finance.
Tickets for the ceremony and banquet are on sale through the end of October, $60 for the general public and $40 for NSU faculty, staff and students.
