NSU opens emergency room

NSU’s emergency room will open on May 18.

The 12,700-square foot emergency room is an part of the Westside Regional Medical Center and is located in the University Park Plaza at 3476 South University Drive. The facility has 16 treatment rooms, one trauma room, a laboratory, a pharmacy and equipment including digital x-ray units, an ultrasound and a CT scanner. The emergency room will be open 27/7.

Westside Regional CEO Barbara J. Simmons said the emergency room will provide the same level of care provided at Westside’s main campus in Plantation.

“We are really excited to expand our services in the town of Davie and to partner with NSU,” Simmons said.

In the future, NSU students in the medical and health professions programs will be able to train and complete residences at the emergency room.

President George Hanbury said, “This emergency room will serve as the cornerstone of a future medical complex that will provide the surrounding community with a variety of university-level health care services, along with teaching and research opportunities for NSU students and faculty working in collaboration with community health care professionals.”
