Breaking free from spring break

It may be funny to post “I live where you vacation” on social media every other week of the year, but it can be a bittersweet truth when it comes to spring break. No matter how beautiful our SOFLO beaches are, the massive crowds that are bound to take up every square inch of sand and the desire for a change of scenery may have you dreading the thought of spending your week of vacation here, which this year falls March 6-13. Here are some fun alternatives for Sharks looking for a new shore.

Find the Keys to spring break success

If you’re going to be a resident of SOFLO, you’ll probably be asked if you’ve been to the Keys. So if you’ve yet to make the trip, consider taking the opportunity during spring break. There’s a variety of activities to appeal to every person in a travel pack. Whether you’re looking for sangrias or scuba diving, the Keys will probably fit your needs. Discover a Magic Kingdom

College may entail a lot of growing up, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave your childhood behind altogether. This spring break might be your chance to find your childhood hero, whether he’s Buzz Lightyear or a chipper mouse in red shorts. If you’re concerned your magical destination won’t fit into your college budget, don’t worry. Disney discounts exist. Panhandle for a different beach experience

Maybe you love the beach and you’re looking for something to rival our very own Las Olas. In that case, consider going to Panama City Beach. This location has a yearly game plan to entertain spring breakers, which includes hotel rooms and events like the Beach Bash Music Festival. There are different performers for different dates of the festival, but Sharks can catch NGHTMRE on March 7. To plan a trip to Panama City Beach, go to pcbeachspringbreak.com.

Daytrip the way to diversity

One great thing about living where other people vacation is that you don’t have to settle on just one destination for spring break this year. With so many tourist attractions, Sharks can plan a variety of day trips in order to say “I’ve done that” to all their jealous Facebook friends. Maybe one day you’ll go to the Everglades and the next you’ll figure out how to navigate Sawgrass Mall. If you need ideas for sites to see, here’s a good place to start: funlauderdale.com.

Much like the college experience, spring break is what you choose to make it. There are plenty of new waters for Sharks to explore on their week of downtime. You just have to figure out where to swim.
