NSU’s Office of Residential Life and Housing is accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year resident assistants. Students are required to attend an interest meeting and go through the interview process before selected RAs are announced on March 1.
The Office of Residential Life and Housing is looking for students with “a strong self-awareness, a high level of integrity, and a willingness to learn”. Additionally, students must have a resume, cover letter, two references, a 2.5 minimum GPA and no judicial record. Cover letters and resumes must be reviewed by Career Development prior to applying.
For cover letter and resume review, contact Career Development at (954) 262-7201 for an appointment, or visit Horvitz room 152 for drop-in advising from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Anybody that has an interest in making a difference in the community and leaving an impact is great [for the position]. We are very excited to hear from a lot of different demographics on campus. We are trying to make sure our staff is representative and diverse enough to be able to connect [with the NSU community],” said Kat Milian, graduate assistant for student staff training and resident academic initiatives with the Office of Residential Life and Housing.
Niraj Pathak, sophomore biology major, and 2018-2019 RA, explained that “being an RA is a really fun way to interact with a lot of people from different walks of life and you get to really learn what they’re going through and be someone they can look up to or come to with their problems.”
Pathak recommended that applicants be good at problem solving, creative and comfortable and able to make time to talk with others— for a good portion of the day. He also cited having a single room as being one of the best perks of the job.
“Being an RA, [you’re always on the job], it’s relaxed most of the time. You’re walking to class and you see a resident so you say ‘Hi,’ or in the Starbucks line you chat with them, but after a whole day of always being social and talking with everyone, sometimes it’s nice to just be in your room by yourself and wind down.”
Applications are due by Jan. 31 at 11:59 p.m.. Updates will be posted on @housingnsu on Instagram.
