Staff Picks: In spirit of spring renewal, what is a song that makes you feel revitalized/recharged? Why?

“One of my all-time favorite songs is Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest. It holds a special place in my heart from my childhood, and it reminds me of summers spent with my family and friends from back home. It’s an older song, and definitely has a unique nostalgic vibe. It’s just about having a good time and being thankful for your company. Every time I hear it I just feel like whatever I’m stressing out about doesn’t matter as much as I think it does.”

Mario Lorrimer, business manager, said:

“Throughout the years one song has given me the strength to keep going. It not only renews my passion for life, but it gives me a vivid view into the bright future I could have. It reassures me that tribulation is only temporary and with each problem conquered, I will grow stronger. It is my inspiration and mental clarity. It is many things to me, but, most importantly, it brings me happiness. If something brings you happiness, hold on to it. The song that does this for me is none other than ‘The Hamster Dance Song’ by Hamster Dance Masters.”

Kelsey Bruce, arts and entertainment editor, said:

“Out of all the music I love, there’s one song that really makes me believe everything will all turn out in the end, and that’s “I Have Been Listening” by Mal Blum. It’s queer and hopeful and quirky, and the best way I can describe it is as the musical embodiment of the sun on your skin after leaving a chilly building. It’s one of those songs that just makes me feel understood.”

Alexander Martinie, opinions editor, said:

“‘Defying Gravity’ from the Broadway musical Wicked is a song that always makes me feel hyped up. If I’m having a bad day, this is a song that I know will help me get through the day. But it is not just that song, I will look for any reason to listen to the entire score of Wicked.”

Skylyr Vanderveer, multimedia manager, said:

“A song that always makes me feel revitalized and recharged is ‘Patience’ by Guns N Roses. Unlike most of their hit songs, which I also adore, ‘Patience’ is super peaceful and relaxing. The slower tempo and acoustic guitar allows you to focus on the powerful lyrics. Whenever I listen to the song, I feel a rush of energy and a sense of peace. I use the whistle intro of the song as my morning alarm. It helps me start my morning on a relaxing and inspiring note.”

Kathleen Crapson, chief of visual design, said:

“My song of choice for recharging my soul is “Walk Through the Fire” by Zayde Wolf and Ruelle. It’s got a score reminiscent of the Hunger Games, and phoenixes rising from the ashes. In fact, that’s one of my favorite verses: “Did we throw it all away? / Did we light too many matches? / Turn ourselves into these ashes?” And then the chorus resounds with the titular phrase: “we walk through the fire.” Whenever I feel like there’s too many things to face, this song is the type of anthem that makes you fix your shoulders, and keep your head held high.”
