Where to study on campus

It is no secret that college is stressful. To help with the stress of studying and homework, I like to change my scenery to help focus. Nova Southeastern University has a variety of study spots, meaning there is a spot for everyone. Where I study depends on my mood. There are times where I prefer a quiet place to work and there are other times where I need background noise. Here are some of my favorite study spots on campus.

Alvin Sherman Library

The library is a convenient spot to study. The unique aspect of the Alvin Sherman Library is the difference in noise level on each floor. If you are looking for the quietest study spot, the third and fourth floor of the library are the places to go. The first floor is where the most interaction occurs, and as you go up each floor, the noise dies down. The library offers private study rooms, making it a great spot to study with a friend. These rooms normally contain a whiteboard which students are allowed to write on. I prefer the study rooms because it not only allows me to study with a friend, but I am able to visually write out my work on the whiteboard. When I prefer a quiet place to work by myself, I normally go to the third floor of the library.

The Garden of Tranquility

NSU has a beautiful outdoor study spot called the Garden of Tranquility. The garden of tranquility is a hidden spot on campus that not many people know about. I love to study in the garden because it is peaceful and relaxing. While studying, I am surrounded by the beauty of nature. If studying gets too stressful, the garden is a great place to take a study break. I have walked on the reflexology path which is designed to target areas of stress and relieve them.

University Center Pit

The UC Pit is a common study spot that is extremely interactive. This is a spot where I like to study with my friends when I feel the need for background noise. In the UC there is a lot going on between tabling events, students walking to and from class and students meeting to eat together. When I study in the UC, I get the chance to interact with friends passing by. That two minute conversation I get to have with a friend in passing is a good break for my brain. Right after the interaction it is back to work I go, and I feel more focused because I took a break.

Bookstore Patio

Across from the Alvin Sherman Library, you will find the bookstore which has a little outdoor study spot. The bookstore is a study spot with a great view and is a laid back and relaxing environment. While studying, I get to see the Garden of Tranquility, as well as the field between the bookstore and the library. When I look up from my computer, I am able to see the palm trees that align with the walkway past the library all the way to the UC. It is an interactive spot, but not to the point where it is disrupting.
