Announced via email on Oct. 7, NSU no longer requires face coverings for all undergraduate, graduate and professional students on all campuses, with the exception that masks must be worn by everyone in academic classrooms.
Originally it was announced that if NSU reaches a 70% vaccination rate across campuses that the requirement for face coverings would end. However, as stated in the email sent to students, Florida has had a 75% drop in daily COVID-19 cases in the past month contributing to this decision.
All student organization events can also resume at all campuses, including indoor dining. In addition, university-sanctioned travel has been approved to resume on Oct. 18.
In addition to academic classrooms, there are other instances where people must wear face coverings. Faculty with an approved medical or religious exemption from vaccinations are still required to wear masks while indoors. However, 99.7% of faculty have been compliant with the mandatory vaccination policy. Also, students and faculty who are in environments where PPE is required will continue to wear a mask.
Only the Jacksonville and Orlando campus have surpassed the 70% vaccination goal, with the Fort Lauderdale campus at 63.5%. However, all dorms on Fort Lauderdale’s campus have passed the 70% vaccination rate besides for the Cultural Living Center, as such they must continue to wear masks while in the dorm.
