NSU organizations to help host 7th annual College Brides Walk
The NSU Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Delta Kappa Omicron (DKO) and Barry University have come together to help raise awareness about dating and domestic violence. A walk to fight against these issues will take place Feb. 17 at Barry University from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. In addition to the walk, activities, workshops and lunch will be provided. NSU Alvin Sherman Library hosts “Remembering Paradise Park”
The Alvin Sherman Library will host an event on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. to reflect on the past issues African Americans faced regarding access to national recreational parks during the time of the Jim Crow laws. The walk is significant to Black History Month as it emphasizes the importance of equal opportunities for African Americans. The walk also highlights the significance of Silver Springs’ owners Carl Ray and Shorty Davidson, who opened a park downriver from the main spring, calling it “Paradise Park for Colored People.” The park allowed African American families to enjoy the outdoors and access Silver Springs just as other Americans did. PFRDG & QOL grant applications due Feb. 17
The President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and Quality of Life (QOL) applications are both due by Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. This year there will be two categories of PFRDG awards. The first is a Research Development award, which will provide up to $15,000 for research projects needing extra funding that will advance the research competitiveness and intensity. For further information, visit nova.edu/pfrdg. A new research scholarship, worth up to $3,000, will also be awarded to a research project seeking financial support. Applicants in the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply for potential funding of publications in scholarly journals, book chapters or exhibitions. The QOL scholarship is open to research applicants dedicated to the areas of autism disorders, children, criminal justice, elderly services, foster care and adults in Broward County. GLOYO, glow in the dark yoga, on Feb. 16
An instructor will be running glow in the dark yoga on Feb. 16 at Studio 3 in the RecPlex from 6:30-8 p.m. NSU students and RecWell Members must pay $5 to attend and guests must pay $15 to attend. Limited space is available.
