High school graduations to impact campus traffic
Beginning in May, NSU will host several high school graduation ceremonies and rehearsals in the Don Taft University Center Arena. University officials have announced that these events will disrupt the flow of traffic and parking on campus. Guests will use the Alvin Sherman Library parking garage. Students, faculty and staff should park in the following areas: middle school lot, surface lot just north of the library garage, DeSantis surface lot, HPD parking garage – upper levels only, and gated surface lots – where space is available. Business School Hall of Fame inductees announced
Three South Florida business leaders will be inducted into The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship’s 2012 Hall of Fame on April 18 at the Signature Grand Hotel in Davie. The inductees are: Joel L. Altman, chairman and CEO of the Altman companies, a real estate management company; George Feldenkreis, chairman and CEO of Perry Ellis International Inc, an apparel company; and Phillip P. Smith, chairman and CEO of Phil Smith Management, Inc., an automotive management company. The Hall of Fame was started in 1990 to recognize the achievements of outstanding entrepreneurs who contributed to a thriving business and have also contributed to community programs and activities.
Study abroad course to Sweden offered this summer
The 10th annual International Arts and Culture Infusion course offered by the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education’s Interdisciplinary Arts master’s program will take place in Sweden from July 24-Aug. 7. The course is open to undergraduate and graduate students who will earn credits while working with European-trained artists and art teachers to create an interdisciplinary arts production. Students do not have to be in the interdisciplinary arts program or be a degree-seeking student to participate. Screening for Jewish Genetic Diseases at University of Miami
On April 18, Victor Centers for the Prevention of Jewish genetics Diseases will offer screenings for 19 Jewish Genetic Diseases at the University of Miami Hillel located in Coral Gables. The diseases are a group of disorders that occur with higher frequency in the Jewish population and include: Bloom syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and Spinal muscular atrophy. According to Victor Centers, Ashkenazi Jews, those whose ancestors were from Central and Eastern Europe, are at higher risk than the general population for several of the genetic diseases.
