The Expendables 2: Exploding on and off the screen
The film follows a team of skilled fighters and weapons specialists, known as the Expendables, for what should be, another simple mission, but It soon turns into a quest for revenge when one of their men is murdered on the job, pinning them against the merciless villain of the movie, Jean Vilain, played by non-other than Jean-Claude Van Damme.
“The Thing” morphs into a brilliant prequel
The CGI was convincing and scary. The Antarctic setting was so real it sent chills down my spine, and, after the film, I was running around pretending to shape shift into an alien.
Moneyball review: Now how can you not be romantic about baseball?
There are quite a few baseball classics in cinema history, such as “Field of Dreams,” “A League of their own” and “Bull Durham.” Baseball fan or not, you can go ahead and throw “Moneyball” on this list.
We could all use seven days in Utopia
When there are so many obvious choices of wanna–be movies out there where astronauts find aliens (“Apollo 18”) or sharks eat people swimming in a lake (“Shark Night”), it’s nice to find a seemingly unknown gem out there like “Seven Days in Utopia.”
He really is an “Idiot” but you gotta love him
Paul Rudd (Ned) has no problem portraying a loveable, trusting idiot in “Our Idiot Brother,” whose main goal in life is to get his dog, Willie Nelson, back from his ex-girlfriend.
A new “Brand” shakes up “Arthur” but can’t overcome a shoddy script
Remaking a classic like “Arthur” that starred the ever extraordinary Dudley Moore is a dangerous undertaking. The original was brilliantly cast with Moore as an immature millionaire playboy and John Guilgud as his acerbic, quick-witted caretaker, Hobson.
The Source Code: “8” well-spent minutes
What would you do if you had eight minutes to live? Stop a terrorist attack, of course. At least that’s what Capt. Colter Stevens, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is expected to do in Duncan Jones’ “The Source Code.”
“Sucker Punch” delivers a solid hit
What would you get if you made a film that combined “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Lord of the Rings” and “Moulin Rouge”? You’d get Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch.”
Close encounter of the British kind: “Paul”
“E.T.: The Extraterrestrial” was an unforgettable movie. It was heartwarming and it created a relationship between man and extraterrestrial that was, well, I guess…human. What “E.T.” didn’t have though, was an alien voiced by Seth Rogen, who usually plays a stoner-type. Combine that with a story written by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and a stellar comedy cast that includes Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, David Koechner, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiigg, Joe Lo Truglio and Blythe Danner and you have “Paul,” a hilarious comedy about the relationship between man and man-child-type alien.
