The Gamma Delta Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated, and the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement (SLCE) will team up to host the Universal Women’s Summit April 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the DeSantis Atrium.

This event is hosted annually to promote the advancement and growth of all women across campus. There will be workshops and a keynote speaker aimed at empowering women through discussion and open communication. This year’s summit is titled “Grab her by the What?!”.

Chapter Vice President Jeslyn Vayalil said that the universal woman is one of Lambda Theta Alpha’s core values.

“We describe the universal woman as someone who is balanced, someone who is politically active, someone who is involved in the community, someone who does as much as she can while still understanding her self-worth,” she said. “The universal woman is something, as women, that [we] believe we should all strive to reach for in order to see our fullest potential.”

As a conclusion to women’s history month, the workshops are aimed at increasing personal discussion, and are open to everyone, not just women. There will be a roundtable set up and there will be different topics to talk about at each table. The speakers will focus on leadership, careers, psychology and empowerment.

The workshop will also feature an informational, directing and informing women of the people in their community that they can reach out to.

Vayalil said, “Even mental health talks are a part of the roundtable discussions. Resources will also be provided to the women that are in distress.”

Vayalil said she wants the summit to be an interpersonal experience for the students.

“We want…to really create that environment with the speakers as well as with themselves to gain the most out of the experience,” she explained.

Free lunch will be provided and three Fin Points will be awarded to student organizations that attend with at least two members. To RSVP on Orgsync, visit orgsync.com/46282/events/1798629/occurrences/4224267. For more information regarding the event, email gdlta.rr@gmail.com.
