Huizenga Business School to host admissions day

NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship will host its quarterly Graduate School Admissions Day on Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Huizenga Sales Institute on the third floor of the Carl DeSantis Building.

The admissions day will enable attendees to go through the entire enrollment process of the master’s business program. When prospective students sign in at the registration desk, they will be directed toward stations according to how far along they are in the enrollment process. The stations will include recruitment, admissions, academic advising and financial aid.

Karen Goldberg, associate director of special events and communications at Huizenga, encourages all students to come, no matter what stage they are at in their higher education.

“We’ll really hold their hand, listen to their needs, and try to guide them as best as possible into the best possible program and make sure it’s a good fit for them,” she said.

Students who apply at the event will have their $50 application fee waived. Once they submit their applications and official transcripts to the admissions station, representatives will look over their documents and decide upon the acceptance status. If accepted, students will proceed to register for classes, sign up for orientation and talk to financial aid about what further steps need to be taken.

“We give everybody the opportunity to apply and see what their needs are and how we can help them through the enrollment process,” Goldberg said.

Between 60 and 80 students are expected to attend, but Goldberg said that the majority of the students who attend are very serious about the admissions process and succeeding in graduate school.

“We don’t have a quantity of attendants, but we have quality [attendants],” she said.

Undergraduate students who are not currently seeking admissions into graduate school are also invited to attend to see what the procedure will be like in the future.

Senior business administration major Andreanne Mercier is in the dual admissions program with the business school and plans on attending.

“Even if you’re not sure if you want to apply, you get to talk to some of the staff that’s there and mingle with the other students,” Mercier said. “You get an idea of what it’s all about to see if that’s really what you want to do.”

Mercier advised students to research the different programs to find out what career paths they want to take.

“Make connections with your professors now. A lot of them are professors in the graduate school, too, and they can give you an idea of what graduate school is like so that when you go to admissions day you’ll be prepared.”
