FSU beats bitter rival Miami

Saturday’s Oct. 8 game between rivals FSU and Miami ended dramatically. According to ESPN, FSU’s Demarcus Walker blocked an extra point attempt that would have tied the game for Miami. The Seminoles won the game 20-19.

Sharapova’s appeal upheld

The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova’s appeal. Her two-year suspension for doping has been reduced to 15 months. According to ESPN, Sharapova feels that she may have been targeted by the International Tennis Federation and the World Anti-Doping Agency to set an example for other athletes accused of doping.

Marlins consider trading important players for pitching help

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, president of baseball operations Michael Hill “did not rule out possibility of Marlins trading one of their core pieces to acquire pitching.” Hill offered Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton as potential trade pieces. Jim Bowden of ESPN says that the Marlins “might have to consider trading for a big-contract pitcher or two.”

Rookie cornerback Xavien Howard out with knee injury

According to Dolphins coach Adam Gase, cornerback Xavien Howard will be on a “week-to-week” basis, due to a knee injury. Howard recently had his meniscus repaired and his return to play will depend on how he reacts to rehab.
