Cosplay cafe to benefit charity

By Jenna Kopec

On March 31 from 6-10 p.m. the Society of Anime Gaming and Entertainment, or SAGE, in partnership with the Undergraduate Student Government Association, will hold its third annual cosplay café to raise funds for the charity Stack-Up. The name of this year’s event is “Findom Café: Silver Millenium Ball” to reflect the chosen theme of the anime “Sailor Moon.”

The event is free for students to attend, although donations are requested to support Stack-Up. Stack-Up is a non-profit created by and for veterans that provides video games to soldiers and veterans to help them cope with issues like being overseas and PTSD.

“It’s a recent charity and I think that it’s doing something really good and I hope that people are able to learn more about it,” said Jennifer Cecere, senior art major and event coordinator chair for SAGE.

The event will feature food and activities facilitated by members of SAGE. Some of the activities include origami lessons, a photo booth and screenings of “Sailor Moon”. Although all volunteers and members of SAGE present will be dressed either as characters or in formal attire, there is no dress code for individuals who attend.

The event will have a new feature this year: the take-out section. Students who are unable to stay at the event but who would still like to show support will be able to take food after donating to Stack-Up.

“We know that people want to see other events or might be busy but we still want to provide them with a way to get food and help the charity,” said Cecere.

Shanelle Grizzle, senior event coordinator and SAGE member, coordinated the café for the past two years and has helped with the planning this year. She said she hopes more people will come to this event and gain awareness about the club.

“My whole purpose for the café the past two years was to get more people to know about our club,” said Grizzle.
