Protests continue in cities across the country

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, a 46-year-old African-American man who was killed by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, protests have spread across the U.S. in dozens of states. The protests have risen in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and have occurred in major cities like Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Atlanta and more. According to The New York Times, police forces have turned to more aggressive tactics while confronting the vandalism and violence from protesters.

 

NSU places high on rankings for u.s. colleges and universities

According to the NSU Newsroom, “After reviewing more than 750 colleges and universities across the nation… NSU placed seventh in Florida and 153rd in the nation (placing NSU in the top third of ranked universities.)” President Hanbury also said, “These new rankings recognize these efforts to provide our students with the NSU Edge, and we will continue to offer our students a world-class, hands-on curriculum.”

SpaceX’s Dragon docks on International Space Station

After launch on Saturday, May 30 from the Kennedy Space Center, the first commercial spacecraft, SpaceX’s Dragon, successfully docked on the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, May 31, making history. The crew on board Dragon were NASA astronauts and former military pilots Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley who joined Chris CassidyAnatoly IvanishinIvan Vagner on the ISS. As of now, NASA has not announced when the astronauts will be returning to Earth.

Student loan forgiveness rule overturned

On Friday, May 29, President Trump vetoed a bill to scrap the rule that makes student loan forgiveness more difficult. According to The Washington Post, “In rejecting the measure Friday, Trump called it ‘a misguided resolution that would increase costs for American students and undermine their ability to make choices about their education in order to best meet their needs.'” The Trump Administration also predicts its new rule will save the federal government over $11 billion in the course of 10 years.
