New Halloween traditions to add to your festivities

Traditions can be observed throughout all parts of our lives. Whether it’s a morning routine, a religious or even a political tradition such as having a presidential election every four years. Although they might vary in terms of importance, they still give us something to look forward to.

The same can be said for Halloween and other holidays. Halloween is a unique holiday as compared to others celebrated in the U.S., so its traditions have varied throughout the years. Here are a few that you can pick up and dedicate some of the little free time you already have to them.

Decorating for Halloween in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

To add on to the addiction that many players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons experience, the game also features holiday celebrations when the actual holiday falls. Although this is a tradition that may not be as old as the others, decorating your small virtual island for Halloween could bring the same joy that decorating your real-life living space does without having to spend actual money. There are plenty of fun and spooky decorations available in the game for you to place all over your island and new decorations are added each year. At the end of October, a pumpkin-headed character named Jack comes to present your character with the question: “Trick or treat?” If you have not stockpiled enough candy throughout the month, him or one of the other villagers will “trick” you.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Even though “horror” is in the title, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is much less “horror” and way more “show.” Originally intended to be a parody of the sci-fi genre, as per the show’s creator and original cast member, “The Rocky Horror Show” has cemented itself as a classic piece of LGBTQ+ cinema and Halloween parties everywhere due to its hit number “Time Warp.” Fans of the show have adopted many creative ways to have an interactive experience with the movie rather than just sitting down and watching it. This has made for some very memorable experiences if you ever find yourself at one of the many theaters across the U.S. that puts on a live show paired with the movie. If you don’t want to do that, just watching the movie is enough of a wild ride.

Scary concept albums

Unfortunately, most of the scary concept albums I can think of are metal albums. However, if you’re a metal fan, that’s good news for you. Sometimes it’s not enough to decorate for Halloween and you want to do it to some scary music. Unfortunately, horror movie soundtracks are not very melodical. Instead of those, some metal albums might work perfectly. Albums like Iron Maiden’s “The Final Frontier” which is sci-fi horror, Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to my Nightmare” and Queens of the Stone Age’s “Like Clockwork” all can give an unsettling undertone while also telling interesting stories.

Halloween is a holiday that offers a lot of room for creativity. These traditions may seem new or not, but they can all make Halloween just a bit spookier.
