NSU hosts virtual Irish film festival 

Starting Nov. 16 and running until Nov. 21, Nova Southeastern University will host a virtual Irish film festival sponsored by the Alvin Sherman Library, NSU Center for the Humanities and the South Florida Irish Studies Consortium. NSU Professor David Kilroy will lead discussions around independent Irish films that have not had large debuts in the United States, including titles like “Between Land and Sea,” “Hey Ronnie Reagan” and “Rosie.” Attendees will watch the film on their own time and then meet as a group over Zoom to discuss the film. Event curators ask that those interested in participating RSVP at the link found here. 

NSU University School FIRST Robotics teams bring back the gold 

The NSU University School’s FIRST Robotics teams competed in their first tournament of the year and each team came back with awards. Team 4154X won the Tournament Champions award, as well as the VEX Robotics Excellence Award, which is given to the team that has shown overall excellence and skill in working as a team to build a well-functioning robot. Team 4154Z was granted the Amaze Award, given to a team that has built a high-scoring robot that functions impressively. 

Alvin Sherman Library celebrates GIS day 

The Alvin Sherman Library plans to host a weeklong celebration of geography in honor of GIS day on Nov. 17. GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems, and the celebration hopes to give attendees a better understanding of geographical mapping and its importance and impact on our modern-day cultures. The events will be hosted virtually by both librarians and subject expert specialists to give attendees a better understanding of how geographical locations are mapped out and how they affect society today. 

Auditions for annual Improv Jam open 

Auditions will be held to participate in NSU’s annual Improv Jam on Nov. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre located in the University Center. The annual Improv Jam gathers student comedians and actors together to put on an improvisational comedy performance in late January. Any questions, comments or concerns about auditions for the 2021 Improv Jam can be sent to np961@mynsu.nova.edu.
