NSU speech-language pathology professors publish book 

Multiple NSU professors from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology published a book called “A Caregiver’s Guide to Communication Problems from Brain Injury or Disease” on Feb. 22. An associate professor in the speech-language pathology program at NSU, Barbara O’Connor Wells co-authored and co-edited the book along with a professor from Florida Atlantic University. Along with Wells, NSU staff Marissa Barrera, Frederick DiCarlo, Lea Kaploun and Elizabeth Roberts collaborated on portions of the book. The book was published by Johns Hopkins University Press and can be purchased on Amazon or Barnes and Noble’s website.  

 

NSU further updates mask mandate 

After releasing an update to the mask mandates on campus that required masks to be always worn inside or outside, another rule has been lifted. In an email from President Hanbury sent to all NSU students, faculty and staff, the statement read “effective immediately, masks are now optional when inside most NSU buildings.” Masks are still mandatory in classroom settings. 

 

Festival and 5K to help kids fight cancer comes to NSU 

On March 5, the I Care I Cure festival will be making its way to NSU. The festival starts at 9 a.m. and goes on until noon. The I Care I Cure festival has live music and a VIP tent. There will be a concert performed by The Livesays, a five-piece rock band. The VIP tent includes free food and alcohol under the shade. For just the concert and festival, the price is $25. The all-in-one pass costs $45 and gives attendees access to the run, color run, concert and festival. The $95 VIP ticket gives all the same access that the all-in-one does but gives tent access as well. Visit icareicure5k.org to register. Prices will increase the day of registration. 

 

Emotional Wellness Wednesday in the UC 

For the entire month of February, NSU is hosting an emotional wellness monthly series at the Don Taft University Center Spine from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. The event aims to help students with handling the everyday challenges of life. The focus is on being the best version of yourself and improving as a person. The improvement ranges from the ability to manage stress to the ability to express emotions effectively. You can follow @nsurecwell on Instagram for more information. 

 

NSU hosts Broward Heart Walk 

On March 13, NSU will host the American Heart Association’s 2022 Broward Heart Walk. The walk is three miles around campus, with the intent of bringing awareness to heart health. Check-in for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. Donations are also welcomed to help save and improve lives. You can register at browardheartwalk.org.
